16 Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. – Hebrews 4:16 (NIV)
I worked in radio for 8 years of my life and one of the best perks to that gig was the backstage passes and VIP access. As long as I had that laminated pass hanging from my lanyard, I had the ability to blow right past security and go where everybody else wanted to be (for those of a certain age-group, you’re probably already picturing scenes from Wayne’s World…and you’d be correct). My VIP access granted me free catered food from the best restaurants in town, air-conditioned trailers for those outdoor summer festivals, autographs, private after-parties, free tickets to the most sought-after events, and conversations and pictures with some of the biggest superstars in the world. The privilege of that little pass allowed me great experiences and all the benefits that came with it.
Because of Jesus’ death and resurrection, you have the same VIP access to your Heavenly Father! Because Jesus has gifted every believer with His Holy Spirit, you have an open door 24/7 to the Almighty God! If you’ve been washed by the blood of Jesus Christ, you can confidently come to Him because you have the right credentials. No one can keep you out, you don’t have to worry about tickets selling out, and the cost has already been paid. Where there was once a huge chasm denying you from even approaching, Jesus stretched His loving arms wide on the cross to bridge that gap and be the Way to the Father. You can now be close enough to sit at His feet and have personal conversations with the One who spoke creation into existence!
And His grace and mercy are the benefits you get to reap. No matter what you need, Jesus has it. No matter what you’re going through, Jesus can get you through it. No matter your hurts and sorrows, Jesus can bring healing and comfort. The riches of His grace never run out and His mercies are new every single morning. There’s no need too big or small, there’s no provision He lacks, and there’s no miracle He can’t perform. All you need to do is come to Him in humility, recognize your need, and ask in faith.
As you pray for God to do a new thing in your life, our church, and our community during this 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting, may you boldly come to the throne room knowing you have VIP access to the King of all kings and the Lord of all lords.
How will this new confidence change the way you pray today and in the days to come?
